Talk "Exhibiting Printmaking in Exile. Chilean Artists in the GDR after 1973", Bibliotheca Hertziana, Rome, March 2025

On the 4th and 5th of March 2025, Annabel Ruckdeschel took part in the international workshop Decentering Transnationality. The Impact of Latin American Artists in Post-War Europe (read more).

The conference was organized by Lara Demori, Bibliotheca Hertziana in collaboration with Elize Mazadiego, University of Bern and Felipe Martinez, Leiden University and took place in Rome.

Annabel Ruckdeschel's talk examined how exiled Chileans – forced to leave the country in the wake of the military coup against the socialist government of Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973 – made use of exhibition infrastructures in the GDR. It shed light constellations related to the close contact between the GDR and Chile at the time of Allende's Unidad Popular from 1970 onward, as well as the paths taken by artists who had to leave the country after Augusto Pinochet's military coup.
